The Bible raises the issue of forgiving others to a level of extreme importance.
“For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:14-15)
Jesus’ point was not that forgiving others earns your salvation, but that refusal to forgive reveals an unforgiven heart. And that is a HUGE deal. But forgiveness is difficult. How are we to forgive others? Forgive as Christ Jesus forgave you (Colossians 3:13). That standard is exceedingly high, and it demands unilateral, total, and immediate forgiveness.
